A Strong Step Forward for First Nations Tourism

Last week, it was a pleasure to welcome Dr Paul Grimes PSM, CEO of Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), to the WAITOC office in Perth (Boorloo) for an important discussion about the future of First Nations tourism in Australia.

Our conversation focused on establishing the Australian First Nations Tourism Alliance (AFNTA), the emerging national peak body that will provide a united voice for First Nations tourism businesses and organisations across the country. The development of AFNTA represents a significant milestone for our sector and builds upon the work of the First Nations Visitor Economy Partnership (FNVEP), with support from Austrade and NIAA.

We discussed the opportunities ahead to strengthen national leadership, advocacy, industry development, and government engagement, ensuring First Nations tourism continues to be recognised as one of Australia's most unique and compelling visitor experiences. AFNTA will play a critical role in supporting sustainable growth, creating economic opportunities for First Nations communities, and sharing the world's oldest living culture with visitors from around the globe.
